ABSTRACT

In this chapter, a broad range of data collection options are shared through a variety of English Language Arts teacher scenarios. These include formal and informal resources and tools that teachers can incorporate into their specific contexts. Several data collection options are illustrated through examples including audio recordings, surveys, visual note-taking, field notes, sociograms, and digital applications. The scenarios demonstrate how teachers collect and reflect upon data intentionally and authentically within their practice and using the data in both formative and summative ways to improve instruction in their classroom ecosystem.
