ABSTRACT

This chapter provides examples of how teachers interpret the data they have collected. The scenarios illustrate how English Language Arts teachers summarize and analyze their findings and search for patterns and themes in order to determine next steps. Data analysis strategies include focused reflection through research memos, collegial discussion protocols, artifact and digital analysis, and interpretations of sociograms and other data. The scenarios demonstrate how data collection and analysis can lead to changes in strategies or content. Changes include implementing specific interventions, continuing or revising a successful practice, or abandoning a practice that has not been successful. The scenarios also demonstrate how the teachers continue to gather information and form and pursue new inquiry questions as part of their identity as teacher researchers. The value of community in this part of the process is emphasized.
