ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will grade the direct reports in a matrix in order to be sure we have selected the correct leaders for the tasks, and according to the following: works well with others – no negative personality issues, work ethic – diligent, motivated, dependable, loyal, organized in thought and actions, knowledge and/or experience in responsibilities, and open to change. This is followed by selecting the leaders who possess the desired qualities to get the specific job completed.

Next it is important that your leaders feel supported and equipped to lead their teams, and you will want to be certain your team stays motivated to succeed. Breaking the chain of command can cause confusion at the very least, but often results in the leader having a more challenging time getting the employees to follow them. It will also consume management time needed for managing costs in the plant, and does not empower the leader to excel in their position. There is no point in having a leadership team if you don’t follow the chain of command it represents.
