ABSTRACT
A process plant can be regarded to be a complicated product of engineers from various disciplines including chemical, mechanical, civil, electronics, electrical, geotechnical, metallurgical and sometimes, other fields of engineering. Engineering by vendors comprises proprietary design for manufacturing equipment, packages, and systems, carried out with reference to requisitions or technical specifications prepared by the purchaser, which is usually the engineering contractor or sometimes the owner. Engineering performed by engineering contractors falls mostly in one of the below categories, each of which serves for a specific stage during implementing process plant projects. A process engineering package is prepared at the very beginning of a process plant project, either by a licensor or by the owner or sometimes by an engineering company. The difference between the two is mainly a higher level of elaboration as well as more project documentation presented in the Front-End Engineering and Design compared to basic engineering, in order to make smoother and faster transition to detailed engineering.
