ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 discusses ten idea generating tools and introduces Active Brainstorming which extends the Brainstorming process by asking the Kipling Questions in a systemic and systematic manner. Other tools discussed in the chapter include Association of Ideas, Brainstorming, Constraint Mapping, the Five Why’s, Lateral Thinking, letter and word manipulation, the Nominal Group Technique (NGT), and Slip Writing. Some of these tools are useful in groups; others are suitable for individuals. Although the chapter discusses the tools individually, they may be used in combination. Accordingly, the chapter shows how Active Brainstorming could be used while performing Constraint Mapping.
