Distribution of Sounds

The notion of the distribution of sounds, of morphemes and of other linguistic entities is one of the main components of the conceptual apparatus of contemporary descriptive linguistics. We shall be concerned here exclusively with the notion of distribution of sounds. It is this notion which is necessary when defining the notion of a phoneme.
