ABSTRACT

While it relies upon simplification, certainty, and shallowness, prejudice itself is a deep and complex matter. Its roots can be traced back to evolutionary ontogenetic, historical, sociopolitical, and economic sources. Its myriad manifestations range from thoughtless discomfort with strangers through overt ethno-racial devaluation to communal violence and genocide. Its understanding requires an interdisciplinary approach with input from evolutionary sciences, history, political science, comparative religion, economics, media studies, and applied psychoanalysis. And its amelioration depends upon a harmonious blend of legislative, judicial, economic, educational, and psychodynamic interventions.
