ABSTRACT

In Chapter 7, the author describes five aspects of his previous faith that he has carried forward into his present stance of faith, and he explains the reasons for his continuing to adhere to these aspects. In the last part of this chapter, he also presents and defends four other fundamental features of his present religious faith that he has added to its earlier versions. The process of ongoing subtraction, retention, and addition described in the two final chapters gives one example of how the life of faith should be kept open to the dynamic influences of honest reflective freedom, be allowed to undergo necessary changes over a person’s lifetime, and be acknowledged to face toward the future rather than becoming mired in the past.
