ABSTRACT

This chapter traces Bangladesh’s oceanic legacies and ponders over its policy vision. It appraises the nation’s overall pattern of strategic thinking and, how it pursues its maritime policies. Using Sun Tzu’s concepts, it recalls the country’s oceanic legacies, and measured its maritime pursuits and strategic vision. The Bangladeshis do carry rich legacies of sea voyages and oceanic journeys, including the culture of boat, marine and nautical life, seafaring from far flung lands, the trading legacies, the craft of boat-making and shipbuilding etc, which would energize the people towards greater maritime policy awareness; they have also developed a national vision which ought to provide them with ranges of policy planning in pursuit of their maritime journey. However, all these must be nurtured as a continual process of positive development and fully fostered in accordance with the needs of the time.
