ABSTRACT

The concept and relevance of reverie in qualitative research is introduced. Three concepts which underpin the approach of the Reverie Research Method are presented: Bion’s notion of daydreaming (later elaborated by Ogden and Ferro); the nature of psychoanalytically informed research; intersubjectivity as a relational perspective contrasting with unidirectional top-down models implicit in classical psychoanalysis and in conventional research paradigms. The chapter ends with an overview of the book’s structure.
