ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 covers basic concepts of technical writing. These concepts include how to structure your writing for its intended purpose and audience, avoiding common writing traps such as using clichés and jargon, and how to make technical writing more interesting and readable. Important qualities of technical writing, such as completeness, clarity, and correctness, are examined. Correct sourcing, referencing, and citation of materials is covered as are various referencing styles. The use of humor in technical writing is also discussed. Numerous examples, exercises, and vignettes are given.
