ABSTRACT

In this chapter the motivations and mechanisms for publishing technical writing, such as books and papers, are discussed. Topics include: working as a freelance writer, writing technical books, proposal review, the review process, and dealing with rejection. Various publishing models including traditional, open access, hybrid, and self-publishing are detailed. Specific guidance on how to prepare the writing proposal and responding to publishers is explained. Vanity press publishing and bootleg (counterfeit) books are also discussed. Several examples, vignettes, and exercises are given.
