ABSTRACT

Africa has vast resources of mineral wealth, but much of the continent remains underexplored.

To attract investment, governments must provide digital geoscientific data that are accurate, logically presented and structured, comprehensive, and easy to use.

Geological surveys and mining ministries are important institutions for the collection and dissemination of geoscientific data. The capacity of geological surveys to perform their functions should be regularly monitored and improved as necessary.

Namibia provides a good example of sound practices in Africa and might serve as a role model for other developing countries.
