ABSTRACT

This chapter documents Rohingya in Hyderabad through primary interviews and establishes the situation of refugees/stateless persons in India. The process of addressing any refugee issue has been hindered by the lack of an effective legal framework in India. If issues have been dealt with in the past, they have often been politically motivated or actions have been taken mainly to improve diplomatic relations with a particular country. There is also a lack of clarity on the legal framework within which refugees and stateless persons stay on the Indian soil. These are some of the aspects that this chapter intends to explore through examining various aspects of the condition of the Rohingya in Hyderabad including their living condition, insecurity, and the support structure.
