ABSTRACT

Classroom oral history projects are a fantastic way to build relationships between the university and the community and are a win-win situation for all parties involved. Realistically, oral history projects within the university structure are usually tied to an instructor who views collection as relevant to her students' class experience. Due to the structure of the university, and the fact that most funds are budgeted into permanent positions, it can be difficult to get outside resources, funding and staff for these types of projects. The Oral History Association website is a good place to go to find out more about resources in the classroom, grants, and publication opportunities. Oral history allows teachers to facilitate a discovery of history. Rather than only seeing it in books, students have it come to life in front of them. Oral History projects can be completed at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
