ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an interdisciplinary understanding of global warming and greenhouse gases and proposal of solutions. Large-scale warming has occurred since the latter half of the 19th century, between 1910 and 1945, and between 1976 and 2000. Global warming is a problem, but whether its cause is natural or artificial is an important issue. Urban heat island is a phenomenon in which the temperature in urban areas is higher than that in the surrounding suburbs. This phenomenon influences the natural environment and the health and living of residents. Melting of glaciers on the earth has been progressing since the 19th century. It is believed to have been caused by global warming. There is melting of permafrost as a related phenomenon. Greenhouse gases are mainly carbon dioxide, methane, and substitute freons. These gases transmit the energy of visible light coming from the sun and warm the ground surface.
