ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an interdisciplinary understanding of water and proposal of solutions. Water pollution is a series of adverse effects on water-bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans, and groundwater caused by human behavior. As a concrete example, it refers to a condition that worsens the standard of drinking water, as specified by the Tap Water Act. An increase in nutrient burden results in eutrophication. Organic waste such as city sewage creates an excessive oxygen burden on the receiving water system, resulting in oxygen depletion, which can have a serious effect on the ecosystem. After the Second World War, large quantities of organic mercury compounds were used as insecticides in agriculture. But today, the adverse effects of organic mercury on the environment have been established and its use has been prohibited. Arsenic poisoning is a disease caused by the biotoxicity of arsenic, and its symptoms vary widely.
