ABSTRACT

Heads of law and criminology that were responsible for our large teaching programmes at undergraduate level were fully engaged. Many people ask academics who take on leadership roles why they do so when they seem already to have the perfect job researching and teaching subjects close to their heart. The hardest task was to roll this out so that all staff engaged fully with promoting a positive student experience. The initial decision that we needed to take some significant steps to change people culture came from myself, but was widely shared by many in the School. Changing research culture is a longer-term project than changing the student learning experience. Heads of law and criminology that were responsible for people large teaching programmes at undergraduate level were fully engaged. Programme directors also had a key role in communicating with students on their degrees.
