ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores that impacts of flooding are devastating in terms of human displacements, loss of life and damage in infrastructure and property. One of the efforts to minimize losses is providing early information to the community about risks through flood inundation maps. These maps do not only identify future flood prone areas, but also provide useful information for rescue and relief agency, land planners and local authority. Uncertainties in flood inundation are generated from various sources. Among others are estimation of design flow, terrain data sets and hydraulic modelling approach. In hydraulic flood modelling, important input data is represented in the topographical dataset of floodplain and channel. With high resolution DEMs such as LiDAR becoming more readily available, more precise results can be produced such as in predicting flood inundation extent.
