ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 presents another type of deep level diversity besides the Red, Blue and Green categories; the deep-level diversities that are created through education and professional practice, often named paradigms. Paradigms are the shared basic assumptions and practices inside specific scientific disciplines. These deep-level diversities have something in common: They are relevant to the identity of the individual and embedded in language, intertwined with values, emotions are involved and elements of these diversities are unconscious. In the professional arena, some people have a dedication to their professional education in such a way that makes it difficult for them to see and acknowledge the valuable contributions of other professions.
