ABSTRACT

In Chapter 8 the focus is on how to increase efficiency in teams when diversity is utilised as a positive asset. The Team Pyramid is a model that focuses on seven qualities, each important for team success. A climate of acknowledgement in teams is needed in order to make it safe for each team member to voice their unique contribution. The management of the dilemma in group dynamics between focusing on “what we have in common” and “what is my uniqueness” is reframed into a question of heterogenising (focusing on differences) or homogenizing (focusing on what people have in common) diverse teams. Developing the processes and goals for the team together as a shared and respected team model is crucial to building the underlying trust for effective interpersonal interaction. Sharing metaphors and good experiences together improves motivation. Collective team reflection is the ultimate capability, both for continued learning and maintaining high standards.
