ABSTRACT

Terrorism and atrocities are being committed in the name of religion. To garner support from the masses, terrorist organisations construct ideologies, a uniting-force platform for a religious calling. These misconstrued ideologies become the organising principle and are used as a justification for their acts of violence. Rijal works on debunking ideology as a counter to violent extremism through religious rehabilitation. Since ideology is formed in the realm of a person’s mind, the rehabilitation programme targets the deconstruction of these ideologies. This initiative has seen religious clerics challenging negative imbibed ideologies and replacing them with proper understanding and correct religious teachings through three innovative approaches. This chapter highlights the importance of addressing radical ideologies through religious rehabilitation programmes.
