ABSTRACT

This case study highlights the difficulty leaving the violent relationship and many reasons why Muslim women stay in violent relationships and/or work so hard at making the relationship work. Therefore, we discuss the most important questions in regard to Islamic Family Law. Also, the chapter answers to the question whether Muslim women violate the honour of their families by questioning the physical violence, being willing to leave the violent husband, and fighting for their rights for child custody, child and spousal support under the Islamic Family Law. Islamic feminist discourse proves that Muslim psychotherapists can use various ways to empower Muslim women who find themselves in this situation.
