ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the case of India’s participation in the specialty chemicals value chain. Specialty chemicals manufacturing is moving eastward on the global map and India’s share is increasing every year. It is a highly knowledge-intensive sector and the value chain is partly network type (relational) and partly modular in nature. However, the industry is currently fragmented and systematic efforts are needed to align production processes with global best standards for significant integration into GVCs and upgrading thereafter. The current level of knowledge-sharing remains limited.
