ABSTRACT

Design in the traditional sense has focused on creating practical, experiential, affective, meaningful, valuable, and efficient products, systems, or services, leveraging peoples' emotions and attitudes. As it does, design greatly contributes to the consumerist society by crafting experiences that help sell products and services. The methodology for product service system framework brings together ethnographic, business, design and technical research in a focused way. This multi-disciplinary method of innovation has helped the authors to develop relevant and contextually appropriate solutions in the past in a range of different initiatives in mobility, entertainment, and the on-demand labor market in India. The product service system frameworks will hopefully produce design solutions that focus on human values and create a better and future for all, in addition to the commercial success of the solutions. The chapter describes PEST-DD, a tool that develops for trend analysis, helps one to analyze the political, economic, socio-cultural, technological, design, and demographic changes in the business environment.
