ABSTRACT

The video game industry has had some of the highest-profile examples of data breaches of any industry. The Sony data breach, with more than 70 million compromised records, is one of the largest in history. The industry is progressively more heavily regulated in the United States and abroad. Data transfer between countries is becoming increasingly more complex, and fines for regulatory non-compliance are increasing. In the face of all of these issues, game companies need quality plans for dealing with privacy and data security. Data inventory, management, security architecture, and breach response, and why these technical issues are important, are discussed in this chapter.
