ABSTRACT

One of the best ways of assisting pupils to develop an understanding of teacher style is to explore particular types of situations that pupils have experienced, and come across with some regularity. It is vitally important that staff support each other, and in this way partnership between pupils and staff will be that much stronger, complete, and enhanced in value. Many schools will feel that they are already tackling these subjects, and no doubt they are, but perhaps not in a way that allows pupils to feel part of the school. One way of helping pupils gain a greater insight into the constraints under which schools often have to operate is to set them the task of creating a hypothetical school, setting out what its aims should be, and how it would go about fulfilling them. Many pupils will have responded to their handout with an endorsement of the don't know category.
