ABSTRACT

Social and life skills therefore play an important part in a pastoral programme. Pupils need to practice making plans and evaluating their efforts if they are to get into the habit of doing this exercise with any degree of regularity and success. To ensure that pupils see the purpose in planning their time, the tutor should set each student a homework task of following their plan for a week. One of the tasks which pupils of all ages find most difficult to plan for, is the time for revision, and planning and evaluating their study habits. Unfortunately study skills does not form a subject in its own right worthy of inclusion on the school time table. Pupils should have as much choice as possible about the way in which they elect to describe their lives, so that no one method acts as a barrier.
