ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the principles of childhood sexual abuse treatment and examines patient experiences in centres specializing in the treatment of childhood sexual abuse. In recent years, specialist treatment of the survivors of childhood sexual abuse has begun to develop, being offered in centres devoted to treating this population. Eating disorders constituting one of the most prominent symptoms of childhood sexual abuse, some of the women and girls who suffer from them seek help at these facilities rather than at specialist eating disorder clinics. Several of the women interviewed for the study had been treated in both frameworks, thus being able to compare them. Their accounts clearly demonstrate that they found the specialized sexual abuse treatment more beneficial and effective.
