ABSTRACT

Understanding the close association between eating disorders and childhood sexual abuse leads to the need for a new way of thinking about the therapeutic services women receive in the eating disorder and other frameworks to which they turn for help for their severe CPTSD symptoms. The services offered to women suffering from eating disorders must become trauma-informed. This chapter thus reviews the way in which this transformation can be implemented, proposing an integrative eating disorder treatment approach and the incorporation of eating disorder treatment within sexual-assault centres and centres for at-risk women.
