ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a set of 21 exercises related to the practical use of patent search platforms including Google Patents, Instituto Nacional de Propriedade Industrial (INPI; Brazil), Derwent (Web of Science), SciFinder, United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO; USA), Espacenet (Europe), and Free Patents Online. Commented answers are presented for each involved question, allowing the reader to compare their own answers with the suggestions displayed after the questions. For the efficient use of this chapter, a previous reading of chapter 3, which presents detailed concepts involved in each of the presented search platforms, is suggested. In this context, this chapter assesses the reader’s learning through the practical use of each aforementioned patent database, allowing the first contact with basic searches that help better understand the advanced searches presented in chapters 5 and 6.
