ABSTRACT
This chapter presents three full case studies involving advanced patent searches using the Derwent and Orbit databases. To solve the problems, it is necessary to elaborate a search strategy and its execution to find relevant documents related to each addressed topic. This chapter aims to evaluate the reader’s knowledge in the context of advanced patent search using both mentioned platforms. Focusing on the optimization of learning, commented answers are presented at the end of this chapter, allowing comparisons and reflections between the reader’s results and our suggestions. For the success of this chapter, we suggest reading chapters 3 and 4 that address the fundamental concepts of basic patent searches important for the logical understanding of advanced searches. After which, we suggest a careful reading of chapter 5 on advanced searches in Derwent and Orbit and then assess the learning through the presented exercises of this chapter.
