ABSTRACT

Good communication is the foundation on which clinical practice is based. As healthcare professionals go about their work they are required to communicate with a number of different people; requiring them to balance conflicting aims, interests, rights and reactions of others with their own agenda. Good communication provides the means by which to manage and deal with these demands, ensuring that the needs of people are not lost in the often confusing world of healthcare. It is a complex process of interaction and exchange between two or more people, requiring attention and thought. In this sense, good communication could be argued an essential skill in being personally effective.
