ABSTRACT

In this chapter we take a look at climate change policy, with a view to getting some sense of the ethical challenges and assumptions underlying it. So we examine the ethical foundations of international climate policy, as well as the history of climate diplomacy. We begin with an analysis of the precautionary principle, moving next to the main objectives of international climate policy (namely, to help get a grip on the challenges of adaptation and mitigation), three key drivers of climate change, and some of the most important developments in climate diplomacy over roughly the last 20 years.
