ABSTRACT
In this chapter we begin the work of climate change ethics proper by looking at international justice. We begin with an analysis of the connection between climate change and human rights, before moving to a consideration of the nature of climate justice and why so many in the developed world have resisted justice-talk in this area. Next, we examine climate change as an example of the tragedy of the commons. This brings us to a detailed analysis of some important principles of climate justice, with a focus on the polluter pays principle. We close with an examination of the right to development and its problematic connection to the imperative to curb global carbon emissions radically.
