ABSTRACT

There is a place for us –a place for Korean psychoanalysis. On 8 January 2011, Korean opened the office for the Korean Association of Psychoanalysis. In 2002, Korean efforts at developing and spreading psychoanalysis attracted international attention. Prof. Doo-Young Cho, the founding president of the Korean group, became the first Asian recipient of the Mary S. Sigourney Award. In 2003, on the basis of the recommendation of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) exploratory committee on Korea, the Korea Advisory Committee of the IPA was organized, and its members were appointed. Korean members experienced and shared those years together, making efforts to bring psychoanalysis, IPA recognition, and psychoanalytic training to Korea. In Korea, koreans are continuing to lose the academic positions that our members have held in universities and general hospitals and consequently the opportunities to expose the trainees to psychoanalytic conceptions and practices.
