ABSTRACT

External Consultancy involves consultancy to individuals, groups, or organizations outside the organization of which the Consultant is a member or employee. Internal Consultancy involves consultancy to individuals, groups, or the whole organization of which the Consultant is also a member or employee. The need for consultancy within one's own organization, even if not formally requested, is becoming increasingly relevant. Internal consultancy may also be an integral part of the work of many professionals who may not have the word "consultant" in their job title. Individuals are increasingly requested to take the role of consultant or trouble-shooter from within the organization. Internal consultants' views of problems will inevitably be affected by the beliefs about the process of change that brought their role into being in the first place. Those being consulted will have views about the gains and losses associated with changes in the organization.
