ABSTRACT

Victor filled his once-a-week sessions talking about Bernd and his care. Victor presented two types of behaviour linked with Bernd's care. In the first type, he was the "saviour" of the baby. Victor's second type of behaviour regarding Bernd started after he and his wife went for a one-week vacation, leaving their infant behind with his mother-in-law. The analyst tried to connect what Victor was reporting about his relationships with his son, wife, and mother-in-law to events in Victor's childhood and to the psychological influence of his SS grandfather on his family. What interested Victor were the customer's remarks about increasing the oxygen in the air that people would breathe in Germany. Following his dismissal from the finance company and separation from his wife, Victor behaved as a man with "acute paranoia". He erased some files on the company's main computer in order to get rid of material that might be self-incriminating.
