Nearly half of all children in this country will experience their parents getting divorced (Royal College of Psychiatrists, 2004). Single and reconstituted families are so much a part of society it is easy to forget the impact that divorce can have on children. The lack of social stigma in the outside world may enhance our complacency but in their own internal world a child may feel shamed, guilty, distressed and anxious.
