ABSTRACT

There is never a dull moment in this profession as a psychotherapist— especially if you are not narrowly specialized. A certain number of gays will look for a psychotherapist with the same sexual orientation as them, considering that he will be in a better position to understand their particular issues and practices that are sometimes somewhat unusual. For disorders in the psychotic register, bipolar disorders, or severe depressions, a psychiatric follow-up seems indispensable to us, with the possible prescription of psychotropic medication. It is a good thing for the psychotherapist, even if he is not a physician, to be interested in the treatment and compliance to it, since he is generally the one who sees the patient most regularly. Psychotherapy with cancer patients—from all age ranges—is in frequent demand: it is not aimed at healing the cancer, but at reinforcing the immune system of defense, and helping patients cope with grueling treatments helping to improve noticeably their quality of life.
