ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter, we discussed the contribution of masturbation to the integration of the sexual body image in adolescence. But, as is generally the case in a discussion of masturbation, the concentration has been on its role in the development of the male. However, during the treatment of female adolescents it became clear that masturbation evoked a conflict different from the one usually experienced by male adolescents and that after puberty masturbation had a different significance in the development of the relationship to the body for the female adolescent than for the male.
