ABSTRACT

Elisa chose to study medicine even though she was not particularly interested in the field. In the psychotherapeutic relationship a real plea for help did emerge even though Elisa was convinced it was impossible to obtain, either because of her earlier experiences or because of the almost delirious belief that she had an incurable psychic disorder of genetic origin. The psychotherapeutic treatment was very long and difficult. Elisa had always felt omnipotent in attracting others into her project of creating symbiotic couples who would share her depression, her only real characteristic. Elisa's medical studies confirmed that heredity could be a factor, so she felt predestined to suffer from psychic illness. Elisa's dreams were very important for the development of the analytic work, given the quasi-absence of emotional communication and fantasies in the previous phases, and show the emergence of the autistic parts of her personality.
