ABSTRACT

The clinician had the privilege of meeting with Matt between the times he was twelve years old and fourteen years old. He liked Matt and strongly sympathised with his plight. Matt was referred to the clinician with a psychiatric diagnosis of Asperger's disorder, a diagnosis the clinician came to agree with after the initial assessment sessions and continued to agree with after he came to know him better in the therapy sessions. Matt's appearance was like a young fictional character called Harry Potter. Matt wore large, round wire-rimmed glasses in the Harry Potter style, and these seemed to magnify the sad liquidity of his large blue eyes. In the course of his therapy, Matt repeatedly the matised numerous dichotomous situations, meaning situations in which he could play out only one role at a time out of two opposing possibilities. The split in Matt's self or ego stands out with abundant clarity.
