ABSTRACT

The restorative process is fuelled by the dynamics of attachment and interest sharing; and the theory on which the dynamic process is based is called “the theory of attachment based exploratory interest sharing”. The theory of attachment based exploratory interest sharing can be used with three aims during therapy. The authors introduce the first aim by stating that the aim of all exploratory therapy is to help clients to become more exploratory and to learn more about themselves. In the second place, the theory can be used as a reminder to professional caregivers of the different aspects of a client’s life to which the client might give his or her attention. In the third place, the theory is a source from which to derive hypotheses, which can be tested for their validity in the course of therapy, or in a formal research project. The chapter also presents some of the key concepts discussed in this book.
