ABSTRACT

Dreams can be bewilderingly obscure and transparently clear. Most Western approaches to dreams are constrained within a psychological paradigm, they are viewed as psychological responses, the processing of the mind. In the psychospiritual approach presented here, dreams are understood in all their dimensions such as psychological, spiritual, and physical. The new model of consciousness marries the principles of alchemical transformation, the planes of consciousness, and understanding of the subtle energy centres in the body. Dreams are the product of the workings of our unconscious imagination, always acting as a mirror, not only of our outer world, but also of our inner world during sleep. According to the Vedantic and Sufi tradition there are seven chakras or subtle energy centres located in the subtle body. The psychospiritual transformation process describes the transformation of consciousness over time. In this way, the process of human transformation through dreams is understood as a journey of consciousness through an inner landscape.
