ABSTRACT

Inner sovereignty is commonly communicated through dream imagery of royalty, the archetypal king and queen, and a sense of majesty. In the Sacred Self, there is an increasing sensitivity to the sacred, religious, and angelic aspects of ourselves, a longing to connect with spirit, without and within. In Pathways to Ecstasy, Patricia Garfield encounters archetypal figures in her dreams entitled "Peacock", "Pale White Cherubic Child", and "Branching Woman" at this stage of sacredness and light in her process. The main psychological block to the Sacred Self lies in problems of self-image. The experience of divine splendour at this level brings a flawed sense of self into sharp focus. For instance, one can value sacredness in life to the extent that it becomes a kind of sanctimoniousness and prudishness that has an oppressive effect on people around us. Citrinitas, in its most profound form, is a mystical stage, a state beyond the planes of consciousness, beyond existence.
