ABSTRACT

The aim of psychoanalysis is the acquisition of self-knowledge. There are many things that we do which we attribute to the intemperate behaviour of others. The purpose of psychoanalysis is achieved when the author become aware of his own deficits. The aim of going to visit a psychoanalyst is to develop an awareness of who I am. As Bion said, at the end of one of his lectures, the aim of an analysis is to introduce the patient to himself. Once this process has been initiated and installed as part of one's personal inner equipment, then it is time to finish the formal process. But the process is not finished; the author still have long years ahead of him and the process of self-analysis continues until the end of life. The formal analysis has plunged down to the unconscious depths and that all that remains for self-analysis is the elaboration of it.
