ABSTRACT
This chapter is about the Parent ego state. As its name suggests, the Parent ego state in all of us in relation to our own and others’ Child ego states is nearly, if not absolutely, congruent with the responsibilities and privileges of mothers and fathers in their relationships to their children. For the therapist in doubt about his or her rights and obligations to clients, reference to the archetype of parents and their children is a reliable guide.
