ABSTRACT

This chapter proposes a personal assignment for supervisees: a two-part reflection exercise relating to their experience of supervision. For supervisees who have not undertaken any supervision before, it can be useful to prepare for the first encounter with their supervisor by thinking about certain aspects of their life, especially how and why they became the person they are today. To help with this, they could write a letter to themself, based on some questions. Supervisees need to write a letter to their supervisor about what they want to achieve by participating in supervision, and include at least the following: what their practice is all about, who their clients are, and how it is going; something about their experience in their profession or professional training. This type of self-reflection translated into words can also be of excellent service later on, for example, when supervisees review supervision to see if it has achieved its aims for them.
