ABSTRACT

Treatment methods that have been used frequently or so in the alleviation of premature children's short- and long-term consequences of early birth have been selected. Holding therapy is a psychotherapeutic treatment in which the parents are urged to insist on establishing contact with the child in an emotional process where the mother or father holds the child to give it closeness, comfort, and contact. If the child has a reduced appetite or none at all, it can be difficult to get it to eat the food supplements. As an emergency solution and to break the cycle, one can give the child diet supplements. "Attachment parenting" is a concept that is gaining more and more acceptance world-wide. A child with reduced ability to function has a need of adults who can help to create an alliance with the child against the problem. Together they can focus on the child's resources, creativity, and imagination.
